Lesson 3: Rolling Right and Left, with Alice Friedman

In this lesson with Alice, you will new and interesting ways of rolling. In this gentle way, you will re-organize so much of your torso. Not only does rolling become much easier, but you will discover an overall ease in your neck, shoulders, back and chest.

First, Thank You for all your sharing about the program, the lessons, and discussions. Great information for me and to pass on to friends who might be interested in this program
While doing lesson 3, I found at times difficult to follow the language which seems unusual to me: for exemple " bend your knees, stand on your feet". I notice the impatience when I don't understand what is being presented....my tendency is to stop, wanting just to listen, not do the movement instead of doing it (what I perceive to be) wrong. Any suggestions?

Hi Lucie
It's interesting isn't it when we don't fully understand something and our response to that. So its a pretty normal response to wait for further information to clarify what it is we're doing. What gets interesting then is if that doesn't happen what is our next response? Often we want to get it 'right' when that happens as we don't feel we have enough info for ourselves or guidance from others to let us know if we are 'on track'. Confusion occurs and this can be experienced in many ways.....often - impatience, anger, frustration, all of which are not that useful for our learning process, however can be rich material for us to examine, and begin to explore/unpick to give us more awareness of how we get in the way of our learning and achieving our intention.
So I would suggest that at those moments - pause - get a sense of your breathing - can it soften, have you tightened or compressed yourself internally, can your belly soften, your face soften, your eyes soften, can you find the ground, and orient yourself in the room. Do you find that in spreading your attention like this that the feeling of impatience can pass and you can continue the lesson without having to 'get it right', and simply explore, be curious, and see if as you continue something becomes clearer from further variations. This to me is one of the most interesting parts of any ATM. How do we get in our way and how do we explore ways of dealing with those feelings through paying attention to our process, both internal and external, and finding that by spreading our attention we have more possibilities to respond to a situation rather than react in our habitual ways.
