3-day Advanced Training with Alice Friedman
Creative Potential of Variation

Whether you are a 4th year trainee, an experienced practitioner, or returning to the practice after time away, you will gain facility, understanding and confidence in guiding ATM and FI through the lens of dynamic variation. AND you’ll have fun.
What does it take to become a creative improvisation artist of the Feldenkrais Method?
How do you craft a lesson that's not only rooted in your knowledge but also tailored to an individual's unique needs? Many think of this as improvisation.
Creativity, the ability to improvise, is not some special gift; it is the skilled application of knowledge in new and exciting ways. It entails use of variation and this is a process of experimentation.
Our initial learning in the Feldenkrais Method is exploratory and experiential. As we delve deeper, we weave in structure, theory, physiological and neurological concepts. Over time, structure and embodied experience merge into the background. Moments of creation start to feel intuitive, spontaneous and experimental, yet they are firmly grounded in your wealth of experience and knowledge. - This is the essence of the work.
Pause and reflect:
In the realm of improvisation, one golden rule is the power of “Yes”, embracing what’s presented and crafting from there. This aligns seamlessly with the Feldenkrais Method. We ask: “Yes, AND… what ELSE can grow from this starting point?”
In this 3-day Advanced Training you will work with colleagues, “breathing the same air”, immersing yourself in an atmosphere of shared growth. Together we will:

Pause and reflect:
- How did YOU build your current vocabulary of the Feldenkrais Method?
- How are YOU able to tap into your ability to create, improvise and work with yourself or others around a theme or function?
In the realm of improvisation, one golden rule is the power of “Yes”, embracing what’s presented and crafting from there. This aligns seamlessly with the Feldenkrais Method. We ask: “Yes, AND… what ELSE can grow from this starting point?”
- What elements are effective here?
- What are not?
- Why? What other avenues are possible?
- What can I learn from my colleagues’ perspectives?
- What can I add to their perspectives?
- How do the variations in ATM feed into the possibilities in FI and the reverse?
In this 3-day Advanced Training you will work with colleagues, “breathing the same air”, immersing yourself in an atmosphere of shared growth. Together we will:
- Build vocabulary with more and more complexity and variation within a theme.
- “Play” and experiment using that vocabulary in the moment, during each lesson.
- Foster collaborative learning and interweaving the diversity of approaches into the play of the learning.
